ARRIVAL EXPERIENCE

"If appointments are running late, it would be nice to be told"

Reception Staff will aim to tell patients whether the Clinician is running late.

 

APPOINTMENT MAKING EXPERIENCE

"Sometimes the lines are constantly engaged for 15-20 minutes, but you have to keep trying otherwise risk missing out on getting an appointment"

We have tried and tested several 'appointment booking' systems over the years. The system we have in place now is to offer 'book on the day' appointments. If appointments are gone patients are offered a telephone call from a GP (morning or afternoon), if it is felt neccessary to see you, the contacting GP will offer an appointment.

 

"Not being able to book a routine appointment is ridiculous"

We do have some routine appointments that are released on a weekly basis, this is due to a problem with increasing DNAs (Did Not Attend - where no contact is made by the patient as to why they cannot attend appointment) with these type of appointments. Patients even DNA 'book on the day' appointments.

 

CARE EXPERIENCE

"I am told I have a set Dr, though I very rarely see said Dr"

NHS England introduced all patients having a named GP, however this is not to say you cannot see any other GP.

 

FURTHER COMMENTS

"Include a text reminder service for patients so that there are not so many missed appointments"

We have had a Text Reminder service available at Sydenham House Medical Centre since February 2016. We are using SMS (Text Messaging) for the following: health Promotions (ie 'flu campaign),  appointment reminders, reminders to book annual reviews. If you wish to be included in this scheme, please advise us of your up to date mobile number. Alternatively, please advise a member of the reception staff if you DO NOT wish to participate.

 

"Online appointment request service would be good"

We have been offering online booking for 'book on the day' appointments only, since Spring 2016. We are allowed to offer this to over 18s only. If you would like to register for this please speak to a member of the Reception Team.

 

 "I think parents who have patient online access should be able to book their children's appointments online"

Unfortunately due to NHS England guidelines, under 18s cannot be included in the online booking service.

 

"I would like to get more information on electronic prescription service, the surgery doesn't seem to know whats happening or when this will be available to patients"

EPS (Electronic Prescribing Service) has been live at Sydenham House Medical Centre since the 6th April 2016. EPS enables prescribers - such as GPs and practice nurses - to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient's choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff. Please speak to your preferred pharmacy about setting up a nominated pharmacy if you wish to take up this service. If you don't want your prescription to be sent electronically just tell your GP. If you want to change or cancel your nomination speak to any pharmacist or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS - Tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.
